Elimination Diet

Dr. Jacobs may recommend an Elimination Diet as part of your treatment plan. We have found this diet to be the best clinical tool in determining food allergies and sensitivities. We have also found that patients respond to this diet in very different ways. Because we at Hygeia believe in treating the individual, we would like to offer individual support to our patients while they are undergoing this sometimes challenging diet.

The Hygeia nutritionist, Holly Westling, has created a program specifically designed to meet your needs throughout the elimination diet process. Included in this program are three visits with Holly as well as on-going e-mail support as needed. Because we understand how difficult it can be to carve office visit time out of your busy schedules, we will be offering the option of a phone consultation for the second and third appointments. These consultations will be scheduled in advance. Of course, we prefer to see you in person, but a phone consultation is the next best thing! Here is a brief outline of the Elimination Diet Program:

Visit #1: (45 minutes)
• Holly will review the Elimination Diet with you in detail and answer any questions.
• Holly will ask you to fill out a symptom questionnaire (this will be used to track your response to the diet during the elimination phase).
• You will work with Holly in creating a meal plan and grocery shopping list that satisfies your needs.
• Your next appointment will be scheduled during days 7-14 of the elimination diet.

Visit #2: (30 minutes)
• Holly will review your diet diary with you and address any imbalances in the diet.
• Holly will review the symptom questionnaire with you and address any changes.
• Holly will answer questions and address problems with the diet.
Your third appointment will be scheduled during days 15-21 of the diet.

Visit #3: (30 minutes)
• Holly will review your symptom questionnaire and address any questions.
• You will create a precise plan with Holly for the re-introduction of foods.

Holly will continue to be available via e-mail throughout the "re-introduction of foods" phase of the diet.

The total cost for this program is $100.
